Assembling & Disassembling The Ameristep Doghouse Blind

Have you just purchased an Ameristep Doghouse Blind and aren’t quite sure how to put it up or take it down? I’ve got all the help and answers you’ll need. I purchased one of these blinds myself and couldn’t follow the directions to take it down for the life of me! I actually had to bring it home one evening after hunting, still assembled, because I couldn’t get it into the little bag! Once you see these step by step directions, you’ll never forget how to take it down, and it’ll take you no time at all to assemble and disassemble this blind.

Assembly:

1. Start by taking the blind out of the carrier bag it came in. Be careful when you take it out! If you don’t hold onto it, it will fly out and spring open!
2. After you’ve taken it out of the carrier bag, carefully allow it to spring itself apart. You should have something that looks like the picture to the side.
3. After it’s apart, open it up into a square and place it where you want it to sit.
4. Inside the carrier bag, you will find 2 break-apart poles. Assemble these poles, and get inside the blind.
5. The poles are going to go on the inside of the blind, from one corner to the other. Start up at the left front corner and find the small inlet for the end of the poles to go into. Put it in, and guide the pole across the top of the blind to the back right side, where there is another inlet waiting for the other end of the pole. This may require some bending of the pole to make it fit.
6. Do the same for the other pole, starting with the right front and going to the back left side of the blind.
7. Notice there is 2 strings hanging from the top of the blind. Hold the poles together where this string is, and tie the string around them, to keep them in one place.
8. Your blind should be taught now.
9. Take 4 stakes out of the small zipper pouch on the front of the carrier and stake the blind down.
10. If you choose, you may add the leaves (found in little zipper compartment on front of carrier bag with the stakes) onto the outside of the blind to help it blend in. They are magnetic, so you can stick them on wherever they will stay.
11. Tip: Undo the Velcro windows BEFORE you get out into the field because they are VERY loud! You can always shut them out there if you choose to.
12. You are now ready to hunt out of your blind!

Disassembly:

1. You’ve just finished hunting, so now it’s time to take the blind down. Start by removing the leaves from the outside, if you put them on.
2. Next, remove the poles, untying the strings holding them into place first. Break them apart and put them back into their bag.
3. Remove the stakes from the ground and put them back into small compartment.
4. Now you’re ready to pack away your blind. Start by folding the blind so that it is one sided. Take the front right side, and push it towards the back left side. Then fold the 2 halves together. You will be left with what is shown in the picture below labeled Example 1.
5. Stand with the blind in front of you and place your hands at 3 and 9 o’clock on the top of the blind.
6. Push the blind down towards your feet, and pull your hands together. You should see what is shown in the picture below labeled Example 2.
7. All that is left is to move your right hand underneath your left hand, still holding the blind, and form the blind into a circle. See the picture labeled Example 3.
8. If that direction was too confusing, try this: Tuck what is in front of you (the roller coaster hill shape) underneath itself, and it should fold together in the shape of a circle. See the picture labeled Example 3.
9. While holding the blind, tuck all loose ends in the cracks, and put the blind back into the bag.
10. You’re all done!

I’ve actually managed to get the entire disassembly down to about 5-7 min. The same goes for the assembly, depending on how much I have to blend it into my surroundings.
